GED Connection is a multimedia instructional program that combines workbooks, videos, and online activities. The online management system allows teachers to monitor student progress with online activities, and the Teacher's Guide makes planning a cinch. In this workshop, participants will explore the use of all components in creating GED lessons in classroom and distance learning environments.
Using GED Connection and a number of other programs, eLearn Va delivers GED, pre-GED, and workplace instruction online to Virginia students. Workshop participants will examine the characteristics of a good online learner, structure of the eLearn Va program, content of the online curricula, and strategies for implementing and supporting distance learning at their programs.
To register, complete the online form found on the VALRC training calendar.
Two new (and free) ways to watch GED Connection episodes
Adult learners across the state of Virginia now have two exciting new ways to access all 39 GED Connection episodes. The 39 instructional programs, produced by KET-TV, cover the subjects and skills students need to pass the GED® tests. With the two new viewing options described below, learners will be able to receive quality GED preparation at times that fit their schedules, alleviating the needs for transportation and child care.
GED ON DEMAND
Virginians who subscribe to either Comcast or Cox Digital Cable can now watch any of the GED Connection episodes from the comfort of their home any time they want. This initiative, a partnership between the Commonwealth of Virginia, Comcast and Cox Communications, the Virginia Department of Education's Office of Adult Education & Literacy, and the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center, integrates the GED Connection videos into the "ON DEMAND" programming that Cox and Comcast offer free to their digital cable customers.

You may have noticed that things look different around here. We're working hard on a completely new version of our website, the final version of which will be completed in late spring of 2005. In the meantime, we have tried to improve some of the high traffic pages of our current website. Think of this as a sort of rough first draft, where you get a sneak peek at the final product. We would love to hear your feedback about the changes we're making.
There are a few things you should know about this redesign.
- It is intended to be temporary. The new site will be a complete overhaul.
- Because it's only temporary, the redesign isn't sitewide. Most of the pages on our site haven't changed.
- The new site adheres strictly to website standards set by the World Wide Web Consortium. Older web browsers may have trouble displaying portions of this website or may display them without the benefit of stylesheets. If you are having trouble seeing the site as it was designed, we suggest you upgrade your browser. (In particular, we recommend Firefox as a free, wonderful, easy-to-use, and secure alternative browser.)
- We really do want to know what you think.
Training Section Added
In an effort to provide you and your staffs with more effective and varied training opportunities, we are changing our approach to professional development. Our goal is to provide services tailored to the particular needs of your programs. Rather than choosing from the set of prescribed trainings in the Professional Development Guide, as you have in the past, we encourage you to contact one of our specialists to discuss your program's requirements. Based on the information you provide, the specialist will develop a customized training session for your program.
Our training page has been updated to reflect this change in approach. Please take a moment to look this over and pay particular attention to the individual specialists' lists of training areas. Then, instead of consulting the Professional Development Guide, contact the specialist who focuses on the type of training you need. He or she will assist you in creating a custom-tailored training program for your staff.
