Guidelines for Requesting Training

We want setting up professional development to go as smoothly as possible. To schedule a workshop, simply follow these three steps:

  1. Choose your training from the list of regional and available workshops or develop your ideas for a new workshop.
  2. At least 30 days before that date that you would like the training, contact the appropriate VALRC Specialist  who will work with you to meet your scheduling and content needs.
  3. Wait for a confirmation from the assigned Specialist.

Regional and Available Workshops

Each year, the Resource Center offers an array of workshops regionally to program and community-based organizations who receive funding from the Department of Education or the Virginia Literacy Foundation. They are scheduled ahead of time and announced each quarter. Through these efforts, we hope to bring new and valuable training to all parts of the Commonwealth.

Some workshops may be carried over from year-to-year and are available by request. If you didn’t catch these trainings the first time, you can still ask for them!

To view all of the regional workshops and workshops available-by-request, check out the complete list.

If you have professional development needs that don’t quite fit the trainings being offered, please contact us! We can work with you to customize training or help you in the development of new training.

Sponsored Workshops

The Resource Center will sponsor workshops that:

  • Are developed, conducted, or approved by the Resource Center.
  • Are at least 3 hours in length.
  • Are open to the public or closed to a specific program provided that enrollment is at least 15 registrants.

Reimbursement

With most regional and requested workshops, the host site agrees to provide food for participants. In addition to providing the trainer and materials, the Resource Center will reimburse the host program (or vendor) the following amounts for food:

Workshops less than 4-hours – up to $1.50 per participant
4 to 7 hours – up to $10.50 per participant
More than 7 hours – up to $12.00 per participant
