Virginia Adult Educator Certification Program
Extension Projects and Afterwork

For each session of the Virginia Adult Educator Certification Program, program managers and instructors are asked to perform some afterwork: building on, thinking about, and applying some aspect of the session just completed. The afterwork is designed to allow participants to expand their knowledge and instructional skill as a result of reflection and follow-up action targeting an area for their own growth or improvement.

In some cases, participants will be assigned a specific task as afterwork. (For example, program managers are asked to evaluate their program after Session 1 of the Program Manager strand. At other times, participants will be asked to create their own afterwork.

In general, afterwork will be accomplished in two steps:

  1. First, participants will be asked to develop an Action Plan that describes what they plan to do and how they will go about doing it.
  2. Then, participants will send in a completed Certification Action Plan Results (CAPR) form. This is a record of what was accomplished.

Both the Action Plan and the CAPR will be reviewed and either approved or returned for more information or further clarification. While an action plan may not be requested for each session of all certification strands, completing a CAPR is a required component of each of the core sessions of the certification program.
