The field of adult education in Virginia is changing - becoming more professional, more accountable, and more focused than ever on helping adult learners achieve their educational goals. As these transformations take place, practitioners will need a standard platform of knowledge and skills.

The Virginia Adult Educator Certification Program will provide consistent and structured training for adult educators. There are three levels of training for program managers and teachers, with a certificate awarded upon completion of each level. Level Three certification is optional and will consist of courses taken for graduate credit. There is one level of certification for support staff. All training will be delivered through institutes and workshops and evaluated through a series of self-assessments and reflective projects.

The overarching goal for this initiative is increased learner achievement in programs where management, instructors, and support staff work together to provide the best possible environment for adult learning.
