Guidelines for Requesting Training
- To be approved for support from the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center, professional
development programs must demonstrate the following:
- A minimum of three hours of training time on the stated topic
- Clearly stated objectives
- A trainer with credentials appropriate to the topic (all trainers must be approved by VALRC)
- A minimum of 15 participants with the exception of pre-approved programs such as the Virginia Reading Project
- A Program Manager or Regional Specialist must discuss the proposed training with a VALRC Specialist. Requests submitted without having been discussed with a VALRC Specialist will not be approved.
- The Program Manager or Regional Specialist must submit requests for professional development to VALRC at least 30 days in advance of the proposed training.
- Meals or snacks may be provided for participants in approved workshops held for four or more hours. Meal costs must adhere to the state rate.
- Only training topics on subjects related to adult education and literacy, program improvement, and program management will be approved unless otherwise specified in VALRC's annual Scope of Work.
- Under no circumstances will VALRC approve the reimbursement of meals, snacks, or materials for staff meetings or any other meetings that are not specifically designed for professional development or that do not meet the criteria listed above.
