As defined in the state’s first strategic plan for a career pathways system, Bridging Business and Education for the 21st Century Workforce, career pathways are connected education and training programs and support services that enable individuals to secure employment with a specific occupational sector and to advance over time to successively higher levels of education or employment in that sector.
- What is Career Readiness?
The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) today released a paper titled “What Is ‘Career Ready’?” that outlines three broad sets of skills students need to be career-ready: core academic skills, employability skills and technical skills. ACTE created the paper to broaden the national discussion around the term "career readiness."
- Shifting Gears
CLASP recently launched a new website designed to help states increase the number of low-income working adults who have the skills and credentials they need to compete for jobs in demand. The website is intended to provide information about state policies that work across the nation and to highlight innovative approaches in these states. A section of the site is dedicated to state basic skills policies that promote success in college and careers.
