Stay on Top of GED News (February 13, 2009)

Here's a great way to keep your GED knowledge current and find news related to GED credentialing from national media sources. The publisher of the GED Tests, the American Council on Education, has a page on their website that compiles updates and announcements about the GED Tests, developments regarding the 2012 test, and human interests stories. Bookmark this site so you can use the information to inform your counseling and instruction. One of the recent stories listed features Brittany Roby, a GED passer who was served by a collaborative effort between eLearn Virginia and the Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester County. This and other inspiring stories about GED passers offer encouraging discussion topics for your classrooms.

The Public's Views on College Costs Today (February 13, 2009)

Public Agenda and The National Center for Public Policy and Higher Education recently released their report, Squeeze Play 2009: The Public's Views on College Costs Today.

The following excerpt summarizes their research:

For increasing numbers of Americans, a crucial facet of the American Dream appears to be at risk. A solid majority consider a college degree an indispensable ticket to the middle class. At the same time, even more people believe college is financially out-of reach for many qualified students.
