State and Federal Budget for Adult Education and Literacy

2007 Federal Budget: $563,975,280 (All states) $11,153,763 (Virginia for adult basic education) $1,663,193 (Virginia for English language education).

Virginia General Assembly Allocation, 2008-2009: $1,051,800 to adult education $2,652,500 to adult literacy.

2007 Virginia GED Graduates

21,925 adults tested for the GED, and 15,780 passed.

Numbers in Need: Numbers Served

According to the 2000 Census, 1,184,803 Virginians lacked a high school diploma; in 2006-2007, publicly funded adult education programs served 32,502. (OAEL-Office of Adult Education and Literacy, Virginia Department of Education).
