As the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Specialist at VALRC, my efforts are directed toward providing support for Virginia's ESOL programs and their staff in the areas of professional development, assessment, curriculum, and instructional resources.
I have lived in Virginia for almost twelve years since moving from Durango, Mexico, where I lived and worked for 25 years. I taught EFL (English as a Foreign Language) at the Universidad Juarez del Estado de Durango to high school students and adults. I hold a BA in history from Elon College, NC; an MA in history from Boston College, Mass.; and an MA in TESOL from the University of London. I love working with people from all over the globe, especially refugees with very limited English skills.
In the evenings and on the weekends you can usually find me working out at the gym, jogging around my neighborhood, or biking around Richmond. This past summer I completed my first triathlon. I spend many moments with my Siamese cat, Wiki, whom I brought with me from Mexico.
